Enhancing the Soldo mobile app for a seamless user experience with access to more features.

Soldo Mobile App

Overview

My main aim was to translate the current desktop features and implement them into a mobile-friendly experience.

My Role

UX designer, UI Designer

User experience design, User interface design

November 2023 - January 2024

The Problem

Soldo's mobile app, unlike its comprehensive business console, lacks several features. This discrepancy causes users inconvenience as they expect parity between the platforms. The two main problems for this project initiation was:

Unified designs between platform

The desktop console has many more features which users expect to see when on their mobile app.

Inconsistent brand identity.

New designs were made with new components for the mobile which doesn't match the desktop version, causing confusion and inconsistency

The Process

Working with product owners, engineers and front end developers we began setting requirements for the mobile processes.

User Flows

By identifying current user processes on the desktop we can map out the mobile flows.

Logic Mapping

Working with the developers and product owners we identified technical requirements, constraints and existing processes to help logic map.

Mobile Testing

We did testing on the mobile to ensure the designs were consistent with brand designs and that the overall experience was suitable for users.

The key features prioritised to convert were:

  • Pre-approved Spending allows users to have complete access to their virtual expense cards.
  • Online Ads allows users to access and edit their existing online ad subscriptions.
  • Subscriptions allows users to access and edit their existing subscriptions.
  • Account Request allows users to edit transaction limits and create expense requests.

Final Designs

These are the final designs for the mobile features for the Soldo Mobile App.

Results and Takeaways

Time management and realistic expectations.

Since I was only working for 6 months on contract, my time management and job expectations had to be realistic and provide results within the timeframe. Designing a full spec prototype doesn't mean it'll all be integrated at once and that's okay. Ensuring constant communication with developers and other related parties understood the goals it was important to manage expectations against constraints.

Designing for mobile is a great exercise to do spring cleaning.

Most people forget the beauty of simplicity and often when designing on desktop, more and more content gets added resulting in an overload and legacy work. So taking this time to convert the desktop product to mobile was a valuable experience taking away all the 'bells and whistles' and reviewing old work, leaving the important features best suited to the users.
